I
In the desert
I saw a creature,
naked,
bestial,
II

And ate of it.
IV
I said,
"Is it good, friend?"
V
"It is bitter---bitter,"
he answered;
VI
"But I like it
"Because it is bitter,
VII
"And because it is my heart."
