First WordPress Project – Phase 1

Objective

•  Familiarize you with the WordPress system.
• Create a site that will either display or provide links to all of your other coursework.

Requirements

For this first project, your site will contain three pages:

• A Home Page – This page should contain a short (at least 50 words word) welcome statement. This page should also  include an image, video, or sound file that you feel represents you. This can be an iconic representation (such as an image of yourself) or a more symbolic one.
•  A blog Page – This page will contain your reading response posts.
• Short Media Essay Page – Write a short essay (at least 300 words ) describing your experience with one specific medium that is important to you and post it on this page. Describe how you use this medium and how it relates to you. This page should also contain either an image, video, or audio file that represents the medium you choose.
  Note -Your WordPress site should contain the actual essay, not a link to the essay.

Your site should also include a menu with navigation to all three pages.

You will continue to develop your WordPress site throughout the semester.

Grading

This project is worth 20 points and will be graded as follows:

Overall Site                        10 Points
Are all required elements included? Is menu system easy to navigate. Are pages clean (hint – remove the comment boxes from your home and essay pages) and easy to read?

Writing                                  5 Points
Is prose well organized and error free? Do statements and essay demonstrate knowledge and/or interest in the subject matter?

Use of media Elements      5 Points
Are media elements relevant to the topics. Do they work?
