Devon Baxter – Final Project Role

My role for the final project is to work as the web developer for the salmon creek journal. I will be applying the knowledge I have gained in the previous project being developer and applying it to this project making the experience faster and executable in a more streamlined fashion. Since the content for the Journal has already been created I am expecting a faster result compared to the previous project. CSS will not be a focus as others have roles in the CSS of the site. I am planning on getting the structure of the site worked out first before we get to focusing on making the site look great. Even though making the site look good is our priority we need to make sure the structure is down first before we proceed. I will also be getting an assistant to help me with the code so that I am not just doing the code on my own like the previous project. We also have a lot of multimedia designers that will help make the site look good. So if I make something in the code that violates design principles they will be able to catch it before I do. I expect this to be a fun final project but if the last project taught us anything, This project will have some work associated with it to make it difficult to pull through to show what we have learned and gained from the class. I don’t know what obstacles will appear when working on this project but it is all apart of the fun of working on a project of this magnitude.

Final Project Collaboration Duties

For the final project, in which case for me, it’s the DTC handbook project, I have been tasked with creating content for the faculty section. Rich and I are planning on making a video about the faculty, who they are, and where to find some of the most important faculty members, such as Greg’s office. Along with this page, there will need to be written content such as their names, a quick description, the classes they teach, as well as their contact information. I will also be helping with overall design, HTML, and CSS. Additional help will be given for anyone who may be struggling with their section, etc.

Final Project

I will be working on the DTC senior seminar section. This section will include writing about what the seminar is, what you do, and the basic general information on how the class works and runs. I will be working on generating text and content alongside Stratton. I will help with web design but mainly will work on collection stuff for Stratton to add to the web design. I think it is good that I am in this section because I am in a seminar and Stratton and I have different roles in the seminar so that will give two very good perspectives. With our experience in the class, we can do a great job of providing first-hand information.

Media History Multimodal Project

In this project, I collaborated with Chrys on leading the design and visuals for the media history website. We divided Marshall McLuhan’s 7 mediums up between us (working on the 7th one together). I made sure that all of our illustrations became animated and had a consistent color scheme throughout the website. To make the color scheme, I used an image of a McLuhan book to take colors from. I also helped lead creating the identity of the website in choosing fonts and color schemes used throughout. Finally, I created the favicon and group logo for the website.

Final project role

For the final project, I will be taking on the role as a design lead for my team. With this, I will take on our team’s color schemes, fonts, layout designs, and be on top of making sure all of the design information is easily accessible for everyone in the group. I have already created a poster for the Salmon Creek Journal and will collaborate with my team on how to arrange the future advertising with my team.

Final Project Duties

I am a part of the Salmon Creek Journal project team. My main role is the Project Manager. I have organized my team to begin advertising and I have collected our submissions for our project. I also hung up the flyers that were created by my team. Today, I will lead the team discussion and finalize what everyone’s role will be in regards to the website itself, as we only delineated tasks for advertising before.

DTC Handbook Responsibilities

My part in the DTC handbook includes web development as well as writing and research. My research and writing will include program information. This entails topics such as programs used in the DTC program (Sublime, Adobe stuff, Slack, etc…), the road map of the program, as well as just general info.

Role in our Final Project

My role in our final project will be working on the DTC senior seminar section. This will entail writing about what the seminar is, why it’s important, what you do, and how your role is determined. Once the copy text is generated I will work on developing the section of the website that displays our content.

I will be working with Thea on this section, and my primary role will likely be web design once we have the text generated. I think that the two of us are well suited to work on this section because we are currently in the seminar and have current firsthand experience with the things we will be writing about. I do foresee some design difficulties related to consistency across the sections in terms of visuals, but I think that we will be able to work out a good solution to that.

Final Publication Responsibilities – Blog Post 11/15

I am assigned to work on the superpowers section of the DTC Handbook alongside Courtney. I am also a web designer for the superpowers section. Currently I am focusing on getting our text written so we have good descriptions of each superpower section. Courtney and I split them between ourselves so we would have an equal workload. I have a little bit done for web design/development but am working on getting more done for the other sections. I imagine that when the time comes to insert everything, I’ll be working with the other web designers and multimedia artists to make our design cohesive and functional, with my focus more on the superpowers section.

DTC Handbook

For the final publication, The DTC Handbook, I am working on the campus/support section. I am currently gathering information on what resources are available on campus for students. This includes any workshops that are held on campus and the contact info for faculty and departments that help students. My other role will also be web developer, so I will be working with Chrys to do the copy editing and coding of our section.

Marshall’s Media Madness

For our multimodal project, we described Marshall McLuhan’s Medium Theory. Explained were the developments through time of sound to speech to written language.  My main role was a web developer for this project. I implemented the fonts that Kevin provided throughout the site. I also placed in images for each section and did some styling. I coded most of the media queries so the site is responsive as well.

Final Publication Project Contribution – DTC Handbook

I am a team leader, editor, and multimedia designer for the final publication project. As a team lead, I have created a structure for the group to follow. Meaning that, in collaboration with my co-team leader, I have created set deadlines for each stage of the publication project along with organizing what kind of content will be implemented within the publication. As an editor, I am currently working on writing out the introduction and part of the program information section of the publication. Finally, as a multimedia designer, I have selected the color palettes and typography that will be used within the publication, along with creating a sort of idea as to what the publication should look like. There hasn’t been any discussion as of yet on any other design aspects, such as imagery or videos so that is yet to be determined.

Multimodal Project: Media History

For this project I created illustrations and audio for a webpage dedicated to the history of media. The sections that i worked on include, Speech, Writing, Visual and Electric. For speech I went with an old man talking to a group of people in ancient Greece. Writing feature a scroll and book on top of a giant clay tablet. Visual utilized posters from the late 1800s. For electric I made three computer screens with each screen displaying a different app (Instagram, Youtube, Spotify).
