As time goes on the infected cell will produce more and more copies of the COVID-19 virus. One infected cell can make millions of copies before being used up. Copies of the virus are released into the body where they go on to infect more of the ACE2 producing proteins.
Symptoms typically begin when the human immune system detects that something is wrong. A fever will rise as the immune system attempts to fight the virus. Some might also experience blockage in the lungs from all of the discarded human cells, which introudces the shortness of breath symptom. An infected person will also cough and sneeze which can send virus particles onto surfaces where they can survive for days, infecting many.
