Immersive Sims Explained

One of the most fascinating genres of video games, explained in one simple site.

Project Statement

This narrative project is noticeably different from the others you can find online through WSU's site. This website does not tell a "narrative" in the traditional/literary sense, but its structure, how it relays information to readers, and what it sets out to do is similar to that of a literature piece. This website takes a central subject--Immersive Sims--and explains the subject to readers by walking them through several individual aspects of this core idea.

This is similar to how a story may take a central "subject"--a protagonist--and walk readers through the protagonist's story one section at a time (chapters) so that at the end they are left with a clear understanding of who they are and what they've been through. This website works the same way, but instead of a character we are discussing a genre of game, and instead of chapters in a book we are dealing with sections that each tell a small "story" of a certain aspect of Immersive Sims.

Similar things have been done before by WSU students, see the examples here and here.

What Are Immersive Sims?

An immersive sim is a unique genre of games that very few people are familiar with. They take a non-linear approach to design by giving the player multiple different ways to tackle objectives. They acomplish this by giving the player different tools to work with while having various different "systems" in place at once which can interact with one another to create emergent gameplay.
