Culture

Culture exists all around us, and yet creating a definition can be tricky because it does not physically exist. Many sociologists believe that culture is the combination “of the values, beliefs, systems of language and communication, and practices that people share in common and that can be used to define them as a collective”. The cultures that have been established around the world are the ones that define our norms, laws, and morals. Our behaviors and performances are also defined by our cultures. Society has created cultures around religion, location, hobbies, and more. The wonderful thing about our world is that it is constantly moving and growing, so are our cultures.

With new technology, new cultures are created. We created a culture of commuters with the invention of the car. The computer created a culture of users that connect and share information across the globe. Even music, which has been around since the beginning of speech, created a culture of listeners. Music created a culture of artists that bring melody to the world. And music created a culture of fans who live their lives to the music, never missing a beat. Music is a powerful aspect on affecting cultures, and it is important to understand that culture is constantly changing. Many artists strive to push other cultures, creating music and music videos that touch on varying subjects like racism, police brutality, refugees and more.
