Mughal Weaponry in Action

The Usage and Effectiveness of Mughal Weaponry

So, we know what the weapons are, but how do they work? How were they used in battle? How do you attack with them? All these questions can be answered with this one video. In this video, we see J. Neilson, Doug Marcaida, David Baker, and Ben Abbott testing various weapons from the Mughal Empire against test-dummies, banboo, ribs of meat, and sometimes dead animal carcasses. While technique isn't always perfect, this should give any interested person the visuals needed to know how these weapons looked, were weilded, and what kind of damage they could inflict.

The weapons tested in this videos are as followed: Three swords, the Talwar, the Pata, and the Zulfiqar. Two daggers, the Bagh Nakh and the Katar. One thrown/disk weapon, the Chakram. And one heavy weapon, the Tabar Shashpir (which, unfortunately I did not include in my inforgraphic, but is like a mix of a Garguz and a Tabar Zaghnol). While this is obviously not representative of all of Mughal India's weaponry, it is a good set of varied types of weapons.

Video Credits

This video was made by myself, Juno Burton, and could not have been made without the footage from Forged in Fire and History's Deadliest Weapons, as well as music rights to the Australian flamenco-rock band Malcura, and specifically their song Ini Mini from their debut album.

Other than the fact I'm seeing Forged in Fire in my dreams (the show format is so repititive, it's hard to watch as many episodes as I had to watch), this video was a blast to make!
