The Green Algorithm

Rethinking Energy in Age of AI

As artificial intelligence continues to grow, so does its demand for energy. Training powerful models requires massive computational resources that are mostly powered by fossil fuels and cooled with millions of gallons of water. The Green Algorithm explores this rising conundrum asking the question how we sustain innovation without draining the planet of vital resources necessary to sustain life. Through a remix of imagery, sound, and data, this remix reimagines a future where human creativity and machine learning come together to build optimizing systems making them work smarter and cleaner. An Oregon based company called NuScale Power has been at the forefront of developing small nuclear reactors (SMRs), which are a new generation of nuclear technology designed for safer, more flexible, and more affordable than the traditional large-scale reactors. NuScale is poised to revolutionize nuclear energy by creating scale able compact reactors that are manufactured in factories and then transported to sites for assembly. From nuclear possibilities to self-optimizing models, the solution may lie in the very intelligence we have created.
