Say Hello to Sock, Your Waterfront Guide

Here to guide visitors through the augmented reality experience is Sock the Sockeye Salmon, the official mascot of T1 TIMESTREAM. As an avid storyteller and a species of salmon native to the Columbia River, Sock is thrilled to share the rich history of their home and the exciting future the Port of Vancouver is building at Terminal 1. In the experience interface, tapping Sock's icon in the bottom right corner will summon them to tell visitors more about each vignette.

A Heritage Story Told Through AR

T1 TIMESTREAM is an Augmented Reality exploration of Vancouver's history created for the Port of Vancouver USA's Terminal 1 that highlights stories found along the Rotary Walk at Vancouver, WA's Waterfront.

The project is a collaboration between the Fall 2025 senior class of WSU Vancouver's Digital Technology and Culture Department and staff at the Port of Vancouver USA.

Vital Connections

Railroads and bridges through Vancouver and across the Columbia River were essential to Vancouver's growth in the 19th and early 20th centuries and are still used to this day.

Carving River History

Canoes have long been a staple of life for the Indigenous peoples living along the Columbia River.

Prune Capital of the Universe

Prunes were once produced in Clark County and exported in massive quantities to both domestic and foreign markets in late 19th and early 20th centuries.

From Port to Battlefield

The Terminal 1 site was once home to shipyards that built many vessels to assist with war efforts during both World Wars.

The devastating eruption of Mt. Saint Helens on May 18, 1980 killed 57 people and left incredible destruction in its wake. Since then, the area has rebounded with new growth.

Sakura Connections

Vancouver's close relationship with sister city Joyo, Japan is memorialized in sakura trees and a friendship garden gifted by two Japanese businessmen.

Terminal 1 faces an exciting new future with the development of a public market: a hub for community, local businesses, and tourism to thrive.
