Stellenet

An interstellar network of communication.

Day 2: Human Contact

It’s been a little over a day since landing, and I’ve been watching my radar pretty incessantly. There is actually a building within my vicinity; heat signatures on my radar show there might actually be highly intelligent life still on this planet. I haven’t communicated with a human since I’ve left Stellenet HQ. That was about a month ago, you would think FTL travel is fast, but when you scale it to the vast distances of our galaxy, it is still pretty time consuming.

Through researching this planet I've come across some awesome looking landmarks. The flora seems unique to the planet. I know these are trees, but I don't recognize them, their scale is greater than what I've come across so far. Not all the trees look like anything I've seen in the images we've discovered back home. In this region it appears to be a different type of forest compared to the rest of the planet.

Upper Falls

Anyway, I’ve been able to track down the building and will be visiting the being that is inside, and hopefully it, they, whatever it is, is alive, and can help me uncover what is going on here on this once inhabited planet.

I knock on the door and press a button to the side of the door which apparently notified whomever was inside. So they still have electricity working here, that's awesome and should be useful. I'm pleasantly surprised to hear another voice speaking back to me. Part of our schooling is learning languages; my original planet back a few hundred light-years from here, is home to some of the most advanced humans discovered and part of early training and school is language absorption. Every language that is found within the galactic internet is saved and carefully deconstructed. All of these languages are then transferred into our knowledge. Without it, I wouldn’t be able to search other planets out there because communication is just so important. The voice on the other side must be able to see me, otherwise I don’t think I would have heard such a giddy,
“Hello!? If you can hear me, come inside!”.

Some mechanism inside of the door comes undone and it swings open. Inside is a metal chamber, looks like it was made with safety in mind. I walk in and wait, the voice comes on again,
“Can you understand me? There is a microphone in your room, I can hear you.”

I reply,
“Yes, I can understand you, do you mind me asking, who you are?”
“Well, let me come on up and I can get you caught up, I’m surprised you’re out there and you don’t even know what’s going on around you. I know it's safe to be out and about, but I still won't travel alone out there. It's getting late and the moon is out, I'll unlock the inner door and you can come on in and rest here for the night.”
I suppose it can't hurt to stay with the only human life I've discovered so far. I might not have another chance at this if I skip this opportunity. Let's hope he doesn't kill me in my sleep.

Moon

It’s always hard to explain to someone where you’re from, and to convince an individual that you’re not batshit crazy. Usually once people see the ship I traveled here in, they start to wrestle with the fact that what they are seeing is true. So yeah, now I have to start explaining where I’m from and what’s going on here. But we will get to that tomorrow morning.
