Day 4: The Journey to the Hilltop

Green

After another night in this bunker we decide to head out and make our way out to the hilltop. Alfred has a rusty old “Jeep” that just needed a little tune-up. I helped him get the vehicle running last night after tinkering with some of my not-so-conventional tools and now we are on our way west in search of more people. As we crossed a bridge, I looked over the side, and I mentioned to my travel partner Alfred, that I had never seen such a beautiful planet before. He let me know it wasn’t always so green. Nature had reclaimed a lot of the land since people left were just kind of wiped from the planet, even some places that look natural are really plant covered buildings.

One downside to all of this change was the climate seems a little unstable. It is hot in areas and cold in others. Some strange phenomenon is happening with the jet streams on the planet, and the temperatures are fluctuating like crazy within hundred mile spans, as if the planet is in some climate recovery mode. For some reason the animals in this area weren’t wiped out by the nerve agent, I wish I could get more info on that, but I'm sure the dictator responsible for this died with that secret. One thing I picked up on with all of the internet research I did before I came here was about this animal called a cat. The internet has an overload of images and text based images of this animal. I really can't believe it, there might have been something wrong with these people. It is also crazy to see how society differs between the different planets I’ve traveled to. But with almost no-one left trying to kill each other, no-one is in danger anymore. I picked up on zero heat signatures when I scanned the north east hemisphere of the earth.

On our journey we have stumbled across some amazing views of a mountain, some of the waterfalls and other things in this place called the “Columbia Gorge”. We have been traveling along where the roads used to be, even though they are just kind of fields now, they are still helpful in keeping us going the right direction. Dawn is approaching quickly, and our voyage has been slower than I expected, apparently Alfred hadn’t been out this far in a while because he said we were only about an hour out from the hilltop.

The highway has not been totally smooth either, we have had to take our journey through the suburbs and have been backtracking through neighborhoods where the plant life is a little less developed. In areas there is no light and no electricity. I think we are going to camp out in one of these houses for the night, we just can't drive anymore. These areas are completely devoid of life. Fortunately for us, there is nothing left of the people who used to be here. Animals or plants have reclaimed what was once theirs. So it’s just becoming cleaner and cleaner here everyday. Earth isn’t all that bad. The people that do live on Earth are probably experiencing a tough time, but the lack of people is good for everything else that survives here.
