The Electronic Literature Lab, located at Washington State University Vancouver, is built on the collection mode of preservation. It contains 60 vintage Macintosh and PC computers dating back from 1977, vintage software, peripherals, and a library of over 200 electronic literary works. It is used for the advanced inquiry into curating, preserving, and the production of born digital literary works. It is one of a handful of media archaeology labs in the U.S. Dene Grigar founded ELL in 2008 in response to the need for accessing early digital writing published on floppy disks, diskettes, and CDs, as well as making Flash-based works available to scholars. Current projects include preparing Turbulence.org for public access, inventorying and translating files from the rAce Online Writing Centre, and digitalizing the archives of the Electronic Literature Organization.
