Is Usability Design or Visual Design More Important?

Successful design involves a delicate balance between usability design and visual design and results from much thought about the product's eventual use by a specific audience. Although both types of design are important, a general rule to follow is to first consider the purpose and audience before thinking about aesthetics. There are cases (such as with emergency equipment) where there is no need for aesthetics, but the product must always be useable (Smith).

Make sure your product doesn't end up like these...beautiful, but simply not useable.
