Dene Grigar is Director and Professor of the CMDC Program. She specializes in electronic literature, emerging technologies and cognition, and ephemera.

A true tale about the mysterious deaths of Russian hikers in the Ural Mountains recounted with four different possible solutions. Real-time interaction with a scientist marooned in outer space via messaging software. A virtual environment where you take the persona of a character who is lost in the desert. A game from 1986 where you wake up in a hotel room in NYC suffering from a case of amnesia. These are but a few examples of the kind of stories you will study in this course.

During the course you will study digital stories, learning how to overlay traditional literary analysis with theories and approaches associated with digital media, such as code studies, platform studies, media-specific analysis, human-computer interface design. The primary goal of the course is to prepare you for a world in which storytelling has moved beyond print and into digital technologies.–Dene Grigar, Professor
