After a crazy and tiering day of travel we made it safe to our Airbnb in Rome. After settling in we went to the near by square and had dinner at one of the many many restaurants and watched the tourist take photos, enjoy themselves as we enjoyed the nice sunny weather good food and a drink.
There was even a man chasing people trying to sell some scarfs. (enjoy the little things in life)
Glad we soaked up some sun because the next day is thunder stormed the first half of the day (the first storm rain in 4 months). We thought as being from Washington we could bare the rain but we were wrong. We didn’t last even a minute outside before being completely soaked and turning right back around inside.
While we waited out the storm our Airbnb host's who were originally from Argentina made use all some home made pasta and told us it was a tradition in Argentina to have pasta when it's raining.
They say you cant see Rome in a day, who ever said that did not know our determination. After the rain stopped we were out till late at night seeing all Rome had to offer. Which is ok because we found out apparently it is custom in Europe to have dinner late (9pm usually) and stay up late.
While in Rome we saw the Coliseum, Trevi fountain, Roman forum, a few old churches we just happened upon Pantheon, Vatican city and the Sisten chapel.
We had taken a free walking tour of Rome as well and while on this tour we meet Betty and Tari they were both from Sacramento California. After the tour they told us about an old hospital with a great history from WW2. This hospital had apparently created a fake pandemic in order for them to house Jew's from the Nazis. We went with them to find it and had a great time.
After Rome we traveled Pompeii for a day trip on our way to our next location. Pompeii was more then we thought it would be. We learned so much history and saw ruins of old houses and artifacts.
We also found out that there are so many stray dogs in Pompeii that the workers actually let them roam free and feed them. We even meet one and he was so kind and sweet. His name was Oliver.
After Pompeii we took the train to Slereno and the a bus to Amalfi, mistake. We took the bus because it was cheaper then the water taxi. The drive was scary the lane was on the side of a cliff that was for one car only around the corners and we were in a huge bus and it was supposed to be a two lane road. And there were no signs for all the stops we had to use our GPS to make sure we weren’t missing it.
We only had one full day in Venice and we were going to spend it adventuring, even if that meant being out in the off and on down poor of rain. We went and saw Chihuly glass, so colorful and magnificent.
We took a water taxi to the main square and on the way we saw what is known as 'The giant hands of Venice'. Two huge hands coming out of the water like it is hold up Venice. A way to bring attention that Venice is sinking.
