I was the sole creative behind the short 3D film ‘Elbow Room’. I was responsible for the concepts, storyboards, scripting, directing, modeling, textures, rigging, and editing. Because I was by myself I had to be very careful to not take on more than I could handle in the time I had to finish. I also had to wear many hats over the course of making this film. I got help from someone else to serve as the voice actor for both characters, meaning I needed a clearly written script and to direct the voice actor through their lines before I could start animating, which was something I had never done before. By this point I was familiar with modeling in Maya, but it still felt like a lot to be modeling and then animating everything myself. I even created all the sound bites I used myself. By far the editing, both visually and audibly, were the least daunting parts of this project.
The images above are frames taken from the film ‘Elbow Room’. The first is one of two characters, whom I referred to as Bone, during his first close shot. Next is a shot of the second character, Zippo, during his first close shot. Next is one of the more dynamic shots of Zippo falling over the edge of the ledge while Bone watches. Finally is the film ‘Elbow Room’ itself.
